Summer help
Scott commissioners April 28 hired summer employees and lifeguards for the upcoming season.
Joseph Salernowas was hired at $14.50 an hour for the public works department’s summer help program.
Esther Bemm, Gabe Kloss, Jackson Quevedo and Muhammad Valiev were hired as first-year lifeguards at $14 an hour.
Elizabeth Bemm, Daniel Grimenstein, Thomas Howard, Annie King, Moriah Kloss, Jena Osborne, Kevin Wang and Aleena Welch were hired at the second-year lifeguard pay rate of $14.50 an hour.
Ethan Moldovan and Carter Wells were hired at the third-year lifeguard pay rate of $15 an hour; and Shane Frederick, Ellie Reinhart, Brayden Wells and Logan Wells were hired at the five or more years pay rate of $16 an hour.
Max Shipley was named assistant pool manager at $20 an hour.
Cashiers hired are Julie Nangle, $12.50 an hour; Emily Rekula, $13 an hour; Kim Rekula, $13 an hour and Sarah Rekula, $12.50 an hour.
CV personnel moves
Chartiers Valley school directors on May 12 approved position creations, eliminations, hirings, transfers and resignations.
Due to district realignment needs, the district will cut one kindergarten teacher, one first grade teacher and an English Language Learner teacher split between the middle and high school.
The district will add two fourth grade teaching positions, one ELL teacher at the high school, one ELL teacher at the middle school, one Life Skills special education teacher at the Intermediate School, a Primary School Discovery Lab teacher and an Intermediate School Technology and Innovation Teacher.
The board also approved adding a paraprofessional position and a director of sponsorship, alumni engagement and annual giving.
Victoria Henefeld was named lead general worker, Cheryl Deriso was named a general worker and Sarah King was hired as a paraprofessional at the primary school.
The board accepted resignations from Savannah Allott, Alissa Zagari Pruss and Danielle Stephenson.
College Club of Carnegie
The College Club of Carnegie, in its 92nd year, welcomes members and guests to enjoy the group’s “Scholar’s Luncheon” on Saturday, June 6 at Napoli’s Restaurant, 1273 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
There will be a social at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.
Tickets for donated raffle items, as well as a 50/50 raffle will be offered to benefit the club’s scholarship fund.

Collier Parks and Recreation has released its summer concert series schedule.
Performances include: May 31, Hug McKinney and the Embracers; June 7, Hewlett Anderson; June 14, Z-Town; June 21, Rick and Mike Unplugged; June 28, Scott, Rob and Greg of The Clarks; July 5, RML Jazz; July 12, Tracy Lee and the Beats; July 19, Neon Bridges; July 26, Zig Daniels of the Delaneys; Aug. 2, Turner & Black; Aug. 9, Vinyl Rewind; and Aug. 16, Timothy Earl.
Concerts are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Collier Park, 5 Lobaugh St. People should bring a blanket or chair. Local food and beverage trucks will be available.
Public Safety Day
Scott’s Touch-a-Truck and Public Safety Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 at the park, 1 Park Drive, Scott.
There will be demonstrations, children’s activities, food and more.

Teacher degree
Kelly Tobias, an English teacher at Chartiers Valley High School, earned a doctorate in English literature and pedagogy from Murray State University.
Tobias conducted doctoral research focused on the lack of professional development opportunities available to English teachers regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom. Her research culminated in a five-module staff development course and website to provide meaningful training and support for educators integrating AI into instruction.
Scott road paving
Scott commissioners identified 10 paving projects to be completed this year.
The roads are: Ash Street, from Magazine to Gregg streets; Doris Drive, from Larsen to Lochlin drives; Foxcroft Road, from Roseleaf to Stancey roads; Lochlin Drive, from Artvue Drive to the Upper St. Clair border; Mary Way, from Tedco Place to the dead end; Pierina Drive, from Brookfield Road to Salvini Drive; Robinhood Drive, from Akehurst Road to the Green Tree border; the Scott Park roadway and parking lot; Skylark Drive, from Cardinal to Blue Jay drives; and Woodridge Drive, from the Carnegie border to the Green Tree border.
Work will be done by Youngblood Paving Inc.
AIU Board of Directors
Chartiers Valley School Board member Lisa Trainor was elected to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Board of Directors.
Trainor’s three-year term begins July 1.
Chartiers Valley music
Chartiers Valley School District was recognized as a 2026 “Best Communities for Music Education” by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.
The honor is awarded to school districts that demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality music education for all students.
Interim athletic director
Carlynton’s school board appointed Ryan Gevaudan as interim athletic director.
The term is effective April 28 through June 30. The agreement is in accordance with the Carlynton Federation of Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Grants awarded
Chartiers Valley School District was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Grable Foundation for an AI Regional Innovation Project.
The district also accepted a $1,000 grant from the Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The grant funds supplies for the annual Spring Chicken Chase event hosted by the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy.
The event invites families to enjoy a morning together while raising funds and collecting canned goods for the Bridgeville Community Food Bank.

Chartiers Valley school directors hired Victoria DerVanik as an assistant coach for the varsity girls soccer team; Zach Horensky, assistant varsity girls volleyball coach; Philip Madison, varsity girls basketball coach; Ryan McGoogan, assistant lacrosse coach; Mike Semplice, assistant football coach; Hanna Pruchnitzky, assistant varsity cheer coach; and Abigail Stewart, head middle school cheer coach.
The board accepted the resignation of Max Garda, assistant football coach.
