McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks has closed its Downtown Pittsburgh restaurant within Piatt Place on Fifth Avenue after 18 years.

It opened in May 2008.

In a statement on Tuesday from Landry’s, the restaurant’s parent company, chief operating officer Shah Ghani confirmed the closure.

“After many years serving the downtown Pittsburgh community, McCormick & Schmick’s on Fifth Avenue has made the difficult decision to close its doors,” the statement reads. “We are incredibly grateful to our loyal guests and dedicated team members for allowing us to be part of so many celebrations, traditions, and memorable moments over the years.”

Ghani also stated the company is working to relocate employees to sister locations nearby, including Downtown’s Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Morton’s The Steakhouse, Grand Concourse Restaurant in Station Square, and Mitchell’s Fish Market at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon.

The Downtown restaurant was McCormick & Schmick’s last Pittsburgh location. McCormick & Schmick’s previously had restaurants in SouthSide Works, which closed in 2021, and at the Waterfront in Homestead.

The upscale seafood and steak chain has one remaining Pennsylvania restaurant in Philadelphia.

Founded in 1979 in Portland, Ore., McCormick & Schmick’s footprint has shrunk nationwide in recent years with dozens of restaurant closures since 2024.
