Iam irritated and frustrated with the 3% up-charge when customers pay by credit card. It may have started slow, but has taken off in nearly every service available. Businesses are taking advantage that we are moving into a cashless society. Now, most of Gen Z and Gen Y rarely carry cash.

To me, the first push came from restaurants. I think when customers have had enough, tips to servers may be reduced by 3%, unfortunately. These are some of the hardest workers in our workforce. I have experienced this card charge from businesses doing landscaping, a car dealership and a podiatrist, all with no prior notification. Really, a physician has no way to make up that fee for the convenience of customers? Curious what insurance companies’ opinions would be on that.

Business costs and pricing have already increased due to tariffs and inflation, I get it. But much of the increases have already been passed on to customers; I can attest to that. As for me, we tip servers and others 25%-50%.

I think this is a case against fairness and convenience to the customers who support these businesses daily, and their owners. Checks and cash may be making a comeback.
