Wigle Whiskey has taken a few heavy honors at an international competition with spirited performances across many of its products.

Following the conclusion of the American Distilling Institute’s annual three-month-long International Spirits Competition, the Strip District distiller’s Wigle Reserve Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey earned a gold medal representing “exceptional quality for class and category.”

Not to be outdone, its Apple Old Fashioned took home the distinction of best in category, described by ADI as representing “the finest examples within their respective categories.”

During the competition, all entries are blindly evaluated by expert judges.

In addition to those awards, Wigle, which was founded in 2012, took home nine silver medals and five bronze medals across a range of products, including gins, rye whiskeys, bourbons and liqueurs.

Last year, Wigle took home gold for its Dutch-style gin (this year receiving a silver) alongside nine silver and four bronze awards.

“Being recognized by the American Distilling Institute is especially meaningful because of the rigor and integrity behind the judging process,” said Wigle chief operations officer Alex Moser in a press release. “These 16 awards reflect the passion, creativity and craftsmanship our team pours into every bottle.”

In other Western Pennsylvania-related achievements, on its sole submission Liberty Pole Spirits of Washington, Pa., was awarded a silver medal for its Old Monongahela Full-Proof Rye Whiskey. Liberty Pole was founded in 2016.

While technically based in Bellefonte since its founding in 2014, Big Spring Spirits maintains a distillery on Pittsburgh’s South Side. It took home two silver medals for its 100% Straight Rye Whiskey and 100% Straight Wheat Whiskey.

Other awarded Pennsylvania distilleries included Barley Creek Brewing Company, Barrel 21 Distillery & Dining, and County Seat Spirits.
