A man has died after crashing into a pole and being hit by another vehicle in Sharpsburg.
He was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner as Zygmunt Olszewski, 76, of Sharpsburg.
First responders from multiple communities were dispatched to the intersection of 18th and Main streets for a wreck involving a dump truck and a pickup truck around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Sharpsburg police Chief Thomas Stelitano said preliminary reports indicate the driver of the pickup suffered a medical emergency causing him to run a red light at 18th and onto Main Street.
Allegheny County Police said the pickup struck a telephone pole and was then struck by the dump truck.
The dump truck sustained minimal damage and was able to be driven away from the scene. That driver was not injured.
The pickup sustained significant damage, including its passenger-side rear wheel coming off. Olszewski was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Allegheny County Police were called to do accident reconstruction and continue the investigation.
First responders from Etna, Aspinwall, Shaler and Sharpsburg began clearing the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m.
