The scent of Mexican food on Friday wafted outside of Plaza Azteca’s newest restaurant in Hempfield.
The restaurant opened its doors to customers at the location outside of Westmoreland Mall with menus featuring brunch, lunch and dinner options. One woman who came in for lunch Friday told smiling staffers: “I’m so excited for this.”
Plaza Azteca took over the former IronRock Tap House along Route 30 in Hempfield.
As of early April, the sale was pending while Plaza Azteca officials spent several weeks renovating the building. It was unclear if the property transfer had been completed. A purchase price was not disclosed.
Plaza Azteca has locations in a dozen states, including 25 other locations in Pennsylvania, including Monroeville, White Oak, Edgewood, Robinson and at Ross Park Mall, according to its website. Hours for the Greensburg location are listed as Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on the business website.
IronRock Tap House closed in mid-2025 after being open for almost six years.
