Kennywood is trying to stay one step ahead of any disruptions at the park.

A chaperone policy — which mandates guests 17 and younger be accompanied by an adult after 4 p.m. — is in effect all day Saturday.

Kennywood officials posted to Facebook that the action was necessary because of “social media posts circulating regarding a possible unauthorized gathering at the park.”

It was unclear where those posts originated.

“We have zero tolerance for disruptive behavior and, out of an abundance of caution, will be expanding our evening chaperone policy to be in effect all day, Saturday,” the Kennywood post said.

The park in West Mifflin has seen its share of troubles in the past and is seemingly trying to avoid a repeat.

In August, it canceled its 21 nights after altercations at the park. It hosted two late-night, adult events where fights broke out both times.

At the time, a statement was issued to say Kennywood has a zero-tolerance policy for that type of behavior.

The after-4 p.m. chaperone policy has been in effect since 2021.

It was spurred in part by a July 2020 incident in which seven people were arrested after a large fight occurred and about 150 people had to be escorted out of the park.
