Quaker Valley graduate Alex MacDonald, a junior thrower on the Amherst College men’s track and field team, was named NESCAC men’s field athlete of the week during the 2026 season.

At the Sean Collier Invitational at MIT, MacDonald posted a throw of 45.84 meters (150 feet, 5 inches) to finish second in the discus. His mark ranked 10th in Division III at that time.

MacDonald ended the season third on the all-time Amherst track discus record board with a toss of 44.30 meters (145 feet, 4 inches). He recently was named to serve as one of three captains for the Amherst men’s track and field team for the 2026-27 season.

After back-to-back runner-up finishes, Amherst won the NESCAC men’s team championship this spring for the first time in program history.

MacDonald, who has an internship with PNC this summer, was one of 24 Amherst men’s track and field athletes recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as all-region honorees.

The top eight individuals in each event from each region earned all-region distinction, in addition to each member of the region’s top eight relay teams.

The regions used for this award — East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South and West — match those used during cross country season.

Looking ahead

Quaker Valley won both the WPIAL boys and girls tennis team championships in Class 2A this school year under the guidance of Christi Hays, who coaches both squads.

The QV boys defeated North Catholic, 3-2, in the WPIAL finals May 5 at Washington & Jefferson.

“Even though we are losing three senior starters, the early outlook for next season is good — very promising,” Hays said. “We still have four or five starters returning. And there are two or JV players who will push for a spot. And we know of three freshmen coming in — Will Meagher’s brother Mac being one — who will add depth to the squad.

“It is the second year of the present WPIAL alignments so it will be interesting to see who will be in our section.”
