There are plenty of new singles, EPs and albums on the way in June from a range of local musicians.
Here’s a quick look at those new local releases scheduled for the Pittsburgh region in June:
Pain Clinic
Hardcore band Pain Clinic is releasing its new album, “Love Hurts,” on June 1, with a release show on June 20 at Preserving Underground in New Kensington.
“It’s a blend of everything I ever wanted out of a hardcore album,” singer Ty Dawson said. “Personal, memorable, straight to the point lyrics, hard breaks, fast when it needs to be with our special Pain Clinic swag. It’s been years in the making and can’t wait to play it live June 20 at Preserving.”
2020k
Electronic pop musician 2020k will release a new single, “Interactive,” on June 5 for his first new release in almost 10 years.
“Well, the internet buzzword has shifted to engagement in the last 10 years, but I wrote ‘Interactive’ in the 2010s where the internet was still largely a place meant to interact with others,” said RJ Kozain, who performs as 2020k. “The hook of the song is ‘This is love and it’s interactive,’ which, at the time, was me kicking and screaming as an attempt to save my own doomed relationship at the time: Interact with me, I love you!”
Patti Spadaro
Soulful rock guitarist Patti Spadaro will release a new single, “Mystic Misfit,” on June 12 with a show that night at Allegheny City Brewing in Pittsburgh’s Deutschtown neighborhood.
“The song starts with a rhythm guitar riff and flowy, improvised lead guitar that feels like relaxing movement to me,” she said. “Guitar is my first love, and I enjoy being creative and improvising in the moment — it feels very present.”
Almost Exactly Like Julia
Indie rocker Almost Exactly Like Julia will release the “I Feel Your Eyes on Me” EP on June 12 with a show that night at Allegheny City Brewing.
Describing the sound as if “Norah Jones and Dinosaur Jr. made a record together,” guitarist/singer-songwriter Julia Mahncke said her debut EP “is a powerful collection of songs about feelings getting in the way of good things.”
Shrimp Hat
“Funky crustacean rock” band Shrimp Hat will release their debut album “Somewhere East” on June 12 with a show at Allegheny City Brewing.
According to the band, “‘Somewhere East’ is a short format concept album, following the singer on a road trip from the desert southwest to somewhere east. The songs are rooted in guitar-driven rock but also touch on Americana, jazz, electronica and spaghetti western.”
Trace Remains
Melodic post-hardcore band Trace Remains will play an EP release show on June 13 at the Funhouse at Mr. Smalls. Their “Zero Hour” EP is set for an official release on July 17.
Lillie Gazer
Alt folk songwriter Lillie Gazer will be releasing her first song, “Late Night Rodeo,” on June 12 with a single release show with her full five-piece band on June 13 at the Government Center on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
Gazer invites listeners “for a ride on those winding Carolina back roads on a buggy summer night” with the single.
Dave Shepherd
Americana musician Dave Shepherd will release a new EP on June 23, featuring singles “Easy on Yourself” and “Day Off Blues.”
“Written as a reminder to give yourself grace in a fast-moving world, (‘Easy on Yourself’) carries a steady, unhurried pulse that mirrors its message sometimes the strongest move is simply slowing down,” according to a release.
Brake Run
Shoegaze band Brake Run will release the album “Phantom’s Revenge 2001” on June 25 with a release show at the Government Center.
“This is our debut record full of noise and fuzz for anyone that loves shoegaze,” singer/guitarist Brianna Snider said. “We’re big Kennywood/roller coaster fans so the theme is obvious, but it’s also about dealing with low self-worth and letting yourself feel your feelings.”
Echo After 9
Rock band Echo After 9 will release their debut album, “Sounds Under Cedar,” on June 26 with an album release show the same day at the Government Center.
“One thing listeners will notice is the diversity in sound from song to song,” drummer Justin Hackett said. “The record reflects the broad range of influences each member brings to the band. As a debut, it represents our years of musical experiences, influences and ideas coming together in one collection of songs.”
