A Downtown restaurant and whiskey joint no longer needs one poured out in its memory.
Butcher and the Rye is slated to re-open on Sixth Street in the Cultural District on July 8, when it will offer hundreds of whiskey varieties from around the world once more.
Chef Richard DeShantz and the Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group opened the establishment serving rustic American cuisine in 2013, inspired by a “reverence for the craft, the slow char of a barrel, the patience of a dry-aged cut, and the conversation that only happens around a well-set table,” per the spot’s history.
It became the first Pittsburgh bar ever nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Bar Program in the mid-2010s before closing amid the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and returning intermittently in pop-up form, including with the Après Ski Bar.
“Butcher and the Rye has always been about more than food and drinks,” said a statement from ownership. “It’s about gathering around a table, sharing stories, discovering something new in your glass, and creating memorable experiences. We are thrilled to welcome Pittsburgh back through our doors.”
