Officials are investigating alleged misconduct between staff and students at Armstrong Jr.-Sr. High School.

Armstrong County District Attorney Katie Charlton released a statement Tuesday confirming the investigation, saying it involves an anonymous tip about alleged misconduct between staff members and former students at the school.

“All allegations regarding a school district are taken very seriously by law enforcement and thoroughly investigated, as the safety of our children is of the highest priority. This remains an active investigation and no further comment can be made at this time.”

Charlton’s statement said the matter is being investigated by state police.

State Trooper Bertha Cazy confirmed an investigation but did not disclose its nature. She said no charges have been filed yet.

“State police is investigating, but any further details will come from the (district attorney’s office),” she told TribLive.

Superintendent Jason Perrin’s office, in a statement Tuesday, said the Armstrong School District is aware of “rumors circulating about inappropriate relationships between students and staff.”

“The district cannot comment on confidential personnel matters,” the statement said. “The district has zero tolerance for any conduct that compromises student safety or well-being, and cooperates fully with our local and state law enforcement partners on any matter related to the safety of students and staff.”

Manor Township police Chief Chris Robbins said he is aware of the state police investigation but did not disclose any details.

The junior-senior high school is located in Manor Township.

“We were made aware of what was going on,” he said. “It was just determined they (state police) should handle it instead of us just because of what it was.”

Rumors are circulating online regarding the possible removal of employees from the junior-senior high school property. Cazy said state police were not involved in any removal. Robbins said Manor police also were not involved in removing anyone from the school in relation to the investigation. He believes it was just a rumor.

“They may have been confused,” Robbins said, as police were recently at Armstrong making a DUI arrest, and that person was taken out of the office lobby.

“That is in no way, whatsoever, related.”
