The West Virginia baseball team plays Cal Poly in a best-of-three series in the NCAA Super Regionals from Friday through Sunday at Kendrick Family Ballpark in Morgantown.
First pitch Friday and Saturday is at noon, and both games will be live on ESPN2. Sunday’s game time will be determined if necessary.
West Virginia got to host its first super regional in program history and make its third overall appearance in as many years following wins in three consecutive elimination games in the regional round. The Mountaineers defeated Wake Forest once and Kentucky twice in two days to advance.

Paul Schoenfeld hit the go-ahead home run as part of a five-run top of the ninth inning of the previous game to lead the Mountaineers to victory.
West Virginia won its first game of the Morgantown regional over Binghamton before dropping its first game against Kentucky.
WVU’s top slugger
Central Catholic’s Gavin Kelly leads the Mountaineers in almost every major offensive statistical category. The sophomore is batting .381 with a 1.191 OPS and 16 home runs. His 85 hits are the 25th-most among all NCAA Division I players.
Kelly was nearly unstoppable in the Morgantown regional, earning MVP honors. Kelly drove in eight runs in five games, including three home runs.

Kelly was a member of the 2025 Big 12 All-Freshman Team and played well in the NCAA Super Regional last season. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in the series loss at LSU.
Other names to know
Maxx Yehl is the top starting pitcher for West Virginia. In 85 innings, he has the team’s lowest ERA (2.12) and most strikeouts (101). His .218 opponent batting average is second lowest on the Mountaineers.
Schoenfeld has thrived at the plate. He is hitting .346 and has an OPS of .954. Schoenfeld has the team’s most triples with four and has 117 total bases, second to Kelly’s 158.
Sean Smith has a .313 batting average with a .906 OPS. He has 49 RBIs, trailing only Kelly’s 56. Schoenfeld is right behind him with 48.
Chansen Cole has had the second-best season on the mound for the Mountaineers. He leads West Virginia in innings pitched and opponent batting average at.209. His 95 strikeouts are second-most on the team.
Other WPIAL grads
Freshman Matthew Robaugh, Trinity’s all-time leader in hits and home runs, could be an option off the bench. He has seven hits this season.
Redshirt freshman JD Costanzo, who played for North Allegheny, has made four appearances out of the bullpen this season and has an ERA of 13.50.
Sophomore Creed Erdos graduated from Seneca Valley and transferred to West Virginia after first attending James Madison. The catcher has three at-bats this season.
About Cal Poly
Cal Poly reached the super regionals out of UCLA’s group. The Bruins were the No. 1 overall seed, but they lost two games to St. Mary’s by one run, knocking them out of the tournament. After beating Virginia Tech and St. Mary’s twice, the Mustangs advanced.
Ryan Tayman is the top threat for Cal Poly as he leads the Mustangs in most offensive statistics, rivalling Kelly’s numbers. Tayman boasts a .362 batting average to go with a 1.134 OPS. The junior has hit 18 home runs and driven 56 across home plate.
Cal Poly’s top two pitchers are Griffin Naess and Carson Turnquist, who both have at least 90 strikeouts this season. Naess has an ERA of 4.00 and a WHIP of 1.30. Turnquist has a better ERA (3.35) and WHIP (1.21) but has pitched fewer innings.
Four in the Cal Poly lineup have more than 100 total bases on the season.
