PennDOT’s latest bridge replacement project figures to snarl traffic in the South Hills this weekend.

Route 19 (Washington Road) in Upper St. Clair will close in both directions between Boyce Road and McLaughlin Run Road beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday and continuing through 10 p.m. Sunday as workers demolish the Country Club Drive Bridge, which passes over Route 19 and leads to the St. Clair Country Club.

Country Club Drive will remain closed for the majority of the $2.5 million project as workers construct a new bridge – a process that PennDOT expects to run into October. The underlying section of Route 19 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction during most of the construction.

Commuters heading southbound this weekend can follow a detour via McLaughlin Run Road, Lesnett Road, Mayview Road and Boyce Road. Commuters heading northbound can follow the same roads in the opposite order.

The Route 19 closure could end early if work is ahead of schedule, according to PennDOT spokeswoman Nicole Haney.
