Pittsburgh Regional Transit has closed an intersection along Fifth Avenue in Uptown – and plans to imminently reopen another – as it continues work on its sprawling University Line bus route expansion project.

The intersection of Fifth Avenue and Pride Street is now closed around the clock until June 13. Crews are pouring concrete to restore the roadway.

The intersection of Fifth Avenue and Vince Street was closed during the week for roadway restoration that required heavy construction equipment. PRT expects to complete work and reopen the street on Saturday, the agency said in a release.

The University Line will overhaul PRT’s bus services by linking Downtown with Oakland – a key corridor for commuters – with two dozen new bus stops and other related infrastructure, like widened sidewalks and new traffic signals. The $291 million project includes $150 million in federal funding.

The first phase of construction began Downtown in 2023 and wrapped up last summer. The second and final phase of construction in Uptown and Oakland is scheduled for completion in 2027.

PRT intends to install six new bus stops in Uptown along Forbes Avenue as part of the project.
