Jared Kollar is calling it a career after four-plus seasons in the minor leagues.
The former Latrobe and Seton Hill standout pitcher retired from MLB, according to MiLB.com.
Kollar, 27, was playing for the El Paso Chihuahas (San Diego Padres) of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League but had not pitched this season when his name hit the MLB transactions log as a voluntary retirement case.
No reason was given, and Kollar could not be reached for comment.
He signed with the Padres in 2022 as a free agent out of Rutgers, where he played his final college season.
He started out with Lake Elsinore in Class A before a promotion to High-A in 2023 with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He reached Double-A with the San Antonio Missions.
He climbed to Triple-A in 2024, appearing in 13 games with El Paso and 18 with San Antonio (5-13, 6.79 ERA) before he was optioned to Double-A.
Kollar was reassigned to Triple-A in September but never threw another pitch.
In 88 minor-league games, Kollar was 23-21 with a 4.67 ERA and 265 strikeouts in 345 1/3 innings.
Kennedy to the house
Fresh off a contract extension through 2027 with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, Robert Kennedy III is earning his keep.
The 26-year-old Jeannette alum and defensive back had a pick-6 in the team’s season-opening 30-27 overtime win over the Hamilton Tiger Cats, his former team.
His 54-yard return in the third quarter cut Hamilton’s lead to 24-17 and kick-started a comeback.

Kennedy played for four college programs in five years in Lackawanna, East Carolina, Old Dominion and North Carolina State.
