Pittsburgh police have arrested a 16-year-old in connection with a fatal Market Square shooting last month.

B’Jauhn Dankins, of South Park, is being charged with criminal homicide, carrying firearms without a license, possession of firearms by a minor and tampering with/fabricating evidence.

Terryll Little, 19, of Duquesne, was shot twice in the chest during the shooting, which happened at around 11 p.m. on May 11 at Market Square. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and then died at 2:11 a.m. on May 12.

Pittsburgh police were called to the area of Chipotle Mexican Grill on Forbes Avenue for reports of the shooting. Little was found lying on the sidewalk in front of Chipotle, according to a criminal complaint.

Dankins, along with a woman who was with him, fled the scene, the complaint said. As he fled the shooting, Dankins discarded the jacket he was wearing in a trash can located next to the Gateway Plaza T Station, police said.

Little was seen returning gunfire in the direction of Dankins, according to the complaint.

The shooting happened just days after Market Square’s chaperone policy went into effect. The policy, which started April 30, requires children younger than 18 to be accompanied by an adult when visiting Market Square. The policy is in effect from 3 p.m. to midnight, Thursdays through Sundays.

Police found that Dankins has both a missing person status and an active juvenile attachment for his arrest. He had an ankle monitor installed on Jan. 13, which he allegedly cut off himself on Jan. 23, police said — violating his house arrest.

Dankins has been in Allegheny County Jail since being taken into custody on Thursday.

He was denied bail for being a threat to the community, according to court records, and will have a preliminary hearing at 11:30 a.m. on June 12.
