The state police announced the arrest of a fugitive who they say has been evading law enforcement for over two decades.
Robert Scott, formerly of Uniontown, is suspected of participating in a 2003 armed robbery and burglary in Fayette County.
Police said in May of that year Scott, now 45, and two other people, broke into a residence along Sylvanus Avenue in Uniontown. During the incident, police alleged the three people held two occupants at gunpoint while robbing them. When one of the occupants attempted to flee, one of the three suspects allegedly fired a gun at them.
Police said Scott was never apprehended and remained a fugitive for 23 years. They did not mention when the other two suspects were taken into custody.
In April, a member of the state police’s Uniontown division in charge of tracking and apprehending wanted suspects began exploring new leads . Police said it was discovered that Scott had been living in Michigan using his brother’s identity.
Scott had allegedly been using his brother’s personal information on official documents and interacted with Michigan’s court system as his brother.
Scott was taken into custody Thursday in Romulus, Mich. by members of the United States Marshals Service, police said. Following his arrest, police say Scott admitted his identity.
He is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania where he will face charges related to the 2003 robbery and burglary.
According to court filings in 2003, Scott faced various felony charges including multiple accounts of robbery and aggravated assault, and other charges related to the incident.
As of Saturday morning, the online docket was not updated with current charges or a preliminary hearing date.
