The U.S. Women’s Open is coming to Oakmont Country Club in two years, and yes, the historic course will be ready.
The course is always ready to host a big event.
“If the USGA called and said we need your course for the U.S. Open in two weeks, we would be ready,” Oakmont head professional Devin Gee said. “The course is playing hard.”
It might even be in better shape than it was a year ago when it hosted the U.S. Open for the 10th time.
“By the fall or early spring, you would not have known we hosted the Open,” Gee said. “The course has totally recovered. The USGA was pleased how the course played and so were the members.”
The U.S. Women’s Open is coming back for a third time. The U.S. Amateur has been held there six times.
This year’s Women’s Open is at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, and the 2027 event is at the legendary Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Gee said they are already six months into preparations for the Women’s Open. It will not be as large or expansive seating-wise as the Men’s Open, but it still will be big.
“Start preparing for the event two-and-half years before it comes,” Gee said. “There are a lot of behind-the-ropes things going on. As you know, volunteers are a big part of the Open, and we have started in the process.
“Oakmont is heavily involved in the preparation and coordination.”
Oakmont is one of three courses considered an anchor site by the USGA. The other two are Pinehurst No. 2 and Pebble Beach.
The anchor site designation ensures it will host the Open on a rotating basis.
This year’s Women’s Open is entering the final round Sunday.
It will be at Oakmont on June 1-4, 2028.
Gee said there are no big plans for the course.
“The course is ready for our next big event,” Gee said.
The 113th annual Pennsylvania Amateur will be July 27-29 at Oakmont.
Oakmont is scheduled to host to the 2032 Walker Club; the 2033 U.S. Open; the 2028 U.S. Women’s Open; the 2042 U.S. Open; the 2046 U.S. Women’s Amateur; and the 2049 U.S. Open.
