Taniya Denson made the most of her first season on the women’s track and field team at Division III Haverford.

The Gateway graduate ended her freshman season with the Fords by earning United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Metro Region honors in the pole vault for her performances throughout the season, including her second-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championships on May 1-3 in Lancaster.

Her top vault of the championships was 11 feet, 11.75 inches, a new school record.

Denson battled champion Clarissa Newman, a sophomore from Johns Hopkins, for the top spot at the conference meet among a field that included athletes from Gettysburg, Swarthmore, Ursinus, McDaniel, Dickinson, Muhlenberg and Franklin & Marshall.

Despite her strong outdoor season best, she was not able to qualify for the NCAA championships among an elite field of competitive vaulters.
