A state police trooper suffered minor injuries after responding to a call for an erratic driver on Route 28 in Harrison Saturday night, according to a criminal complaint.
State police filed several charges against Steven T. Guthrie, 44, of Butler including felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence.
According to the criminal complaint, the trooper went to Route 28 in Harrison around 7:20 p.m. after a caller reported a silver Hyundai Tucson being driven erratically.
When the trooper saw the SUV on southbound Route 28 near Exit 16, it was traveling at high speed and crossed the center line and fog line, according to the complaint.
After stopping the vehicle, the complaint says, the trooper reported that Guthrie appeared highly intoxicated, having bloodshot and glossy eyes and trouble speaking. The trooper saw a beer an in the back passenger seat.
According to the complaint, Guthrie had an active warrant and a threat against law enforcement warning.
After getting out of his vehicle, Guthrie refused to put his hands on a bumper, resisted arrest and had to be physically restrained and handcuffed, the complaint states. During the altercation, the trooper suffered minor injuries to his left hand and below his right eye.
While in custody, Guthrie made multiple statements to the trooper such as, “I’m going to kill you,” and “Next time I see you, you’re going to die,” according to the complaint.
Guthrie did not have an attorney listed in court records, and had not been arraigned as of Sunday afternoon, according to court records.
