Trib HSSN baseball player of the week – Mavrik Clement
School – Butler
Class – Senior
Position – Catcher
#Earned – Like his two older brothers, Mattix and Madden, Mavrik Clement played basketball at Butler under his father and head coach, former major league pitcher Matt Clement.
Also like their father, all three played baseball for the Golden Tornado.
Mavrik was an infielder until his sophomore season when Butler was in need of a catcher.
Clement stepped up and donned the “tools of ignorance” in order to help the team and has been a stud behind the plate ever since.
An aggressive running game is a game plan that goes out the window when opposing coaches notice the rifle right arm of Clement when he is throwing down to second base after the pitcher takes his warmups at the start of a game.
He has helped in the development of a strong pitching staff for Butler anchored by a 1-2 punch of West Virginia commit Kyle Casteel and Penn State commit Nolan Stefaniak.
While his defense stands out behind the plate, he has been a force at the side of the plate as well, specifically in the batter’s box.
This season, he is batting .329 with 23 hits, most of which have been extra-base hits.
Clement has three home runs, two triples and a team-high 10 doubles.
He has an on-base percentage of .505, a slugging percentage of .657 and a team best OPS of 1.162.
The Golden Tornado had a dominant regular season in which they won the Section 1-6A crown by two games and won their final 10 regular season contests.
After surviving Mt. Lebanon in the quarterfinals and avenging a 2025 playoff loss to Norwin in the semifinals, Butler reached the WPIAL finals for the first time since Matt Clement’s junior season in 1992.
Mavrik Clement was 1 for 3 with a run scored, a double and an RBI in the championship game as Butler beat North Allegheny, 4-2, for the program’s first district title.
Last week in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs, Butler trailed District 6 champion Mifflin County, 1-0, when Clement homered to tie the game.
The Golden Tornado went on to win 2-1 and advance to the state quarterfinals.
Against District 3 runner-up Chambersburg, Clement had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for another nail-biting win, 3-2.
Butler now is preparing to play District 1 runner-up Owen J. Roberts in the semifinals Monday.
The only other time the Golden Tornado played in a PIAA baseball semifinal was in 1992 when they lost to DuBois, 8-1.
Mavrik Clement will continue his academic and baseball career this fall at Pitt.
