Franklin Regional school officials have disciplined a senior whose yearbook quote is linked to antisemitic Holocaust-denial conspiracy theories.

Among the many quotes under senior photos in the 2025-26 Panther yearbook is one reading, “271k or not enough.”

The number 271,000 is regularly cited by Holocaust deniers who claim that number represents the actual total of Jewish people killed during World War II, rather than the accepted historical consensus of 6 million, which is supported by extensive documentation and demographic studies.

“The district was made aware of the student’s quote after distribution of yearbooks last week,” Franklin Regional spokesperson Deana Callipare said. “A couple of people reached out to the high school administration to express their concerns. The school district doesn’t condone this type of behavior.”

Callipare said the district immediately launched an investigation and determined that the high school’s yearbook adviser was unaware of the meaning behind the message when it was published.

Callipare said the district followed its disciplinary procedures in addressing the situation. Officials did not identify the student.

The district’s procedures for student expression and the distribution or posting of materials do not explicitly address antisemitic references. However, they do state that student expression is not protected if it “incites violence, advocates use of force or threatens serious harm to the school or community.”

District officials declined to say whether the the quote violated those guidelines. They also declined to say whether the student received a diploma at Friday’s commencement ceremony, citing federal privacy laws regarding education records.
