Kennywood will enforce a chaperone policy during all operating hours, starting Friday.
The policy requires anyone age 15 and under be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old, said Ricky Spicuzza, the park’s general manager, through a written statement Monday.
“This policy is part of our ongoing commitment to preserving the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that has defined Kennywood for nearly 130 years,” Spicuzza said.
Under the policy, anyone without a chaperone who cannot show identification proving they are at least 16 will not be permitted to enter the amusement park. Chaperones can be parents, guardians or other supervising adults who are at least 21 years old.
Each chaperone can accompany up to six kids. Chaperones must accompany minors at the park’s entry and stay within Kennywood.
Organized group events — like school, church or sports visits — are exempt from the rule, which will remain in effect through the first week of September.
Kennywood late last month implemented a more limited chaperone rule because of “social media posts circulating regarding a possible unauthorized gathering at the park.”
The West Mifflin park has had a policy requiring minors have chaperones after 4 p.m. since 2021. That rule followed a July 2020 incident in which seven people were arrested during a brawl in the park.
