It will be a WPIAL block party at Nittany Lion Softball Park at Penn State this week with a record six District 7 teams playing in the PIAA softball finals.
More history will be made Friday morning when two WPIAL teams meet for the first time in a PIAA softball championship game as Laurel takes on Chartiers-Houston.
What makes this historic matchup even more unique is that neither the Spartans nor the Buccaneers made it to the WPIAL Class 2A title game.
Also in the hunt for gold from Southwestern Pennsylvania this week are Hempfield in 6A, Shaler in 5A, Blackhawk in 4A and Union trying to repeat as state champs in Class A.
