Fox Chapel Area School District officials celebrated the Class of 2026 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Oakland.
About 325 seniors tossed their caps at the conclusion of the ceremony June 7.
Some caps had custom messages and college logos indicating future plans.
Many gathered with family and friends outside for photos.
The high school symphonic band, under the direction of Daryl Lesnik, played pomp and circumstance as students and families made their way to their seats.
The choir, under the direction of Benjamin Murray, performed the national anthem and other songs.
Graduates in their red caps and gowns filled the first three seating areas close to the stage.
Student speakers were Ulyana Kubini and John Rehak. The student body president, Michael Didomenico, also delivered a welcoming message.
Rehak spent the bulk of his speech highlighting his peers’ accomplishments including full scholarships to colleges, overcoming injuries and being resilient.
Kubini talked about educators, coaches, friends and philosophers who impacted her journey and offered various shoutouts to classmates and family members.
She encouraged graduates to keep an open mind — but not so open that their brains fall out.
“Remember, we are all together on this lifelong project of finding our unique missions,” she said. “FC, I know I won’t ever forget this community and I will come back often to visit, but next time I’ll have to wear a visitor badge. Together, we are Fox Chapel, second to none. So let’s own this one last finish line.”
Lead Principal Michael Hower, Superintendent Mary Catherine Reljac and school board President Marybeth Dadd spoke about how proud they were of the students and their excitement for their future.
Hope Pekarcik, the student body vice president, introduced guest speaker and biology teacher Emily Sperdute.
Sperdute talked about her journey into an educational field and how it is OK to not have things figured out just yet.
She encouraged graduates to be adaptable and enjoy their detours on the road of life.
Program Principal Nicole Smith presented leadership awards prior to graduates being called to receive their diplomas.
