A patriotic community celebration planned in Greensburg Saturday will be packed with recognition for veterans and community leaders, as well as a chance to participate in a digital time capsule project.
Greensburg Celebrates: America’s 250 — A Salute to Service will be held at St. Clair Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event will include remarks from local lawmakers and a Salute to Service Recognition. That will honor military veterans and active duty soldiers, first responders, healthcare workers, educators, volunteers and community servants.
The celebration, coinciding with the country’s 250th anniversary, will include the presentation of the first Community Service Award to a person whose service has benefited Greensburg.
Amy Beeghly, president of the Greensburg Business & Professional Association, said a winner was selected from a slate of nominations.
Participants at the celebration will have an opportunity to weigh in for Greensburg Voices 2026: America 250 Time Capsule Project, a partnership with Skene 19. There will be stations around the park to record brief video messages as part of a living time capsule to preserve local voices reflecting on service, community and people who make a difference during the nation’s anniversary.
Beeghly said the time capsule was the idea of Tony Marino, artistic director of Westmoreland Performing Arts. The comments will be shared with the Baltzer Meyer Historical Society and on the association’s website.
“We’re excited about it,” she said. “It’s such a unique approach.”
Numerous other activities, organizations, demonstrations and displays will be on hand, including the Pawsitive Impact Therapy Team, re-enactors, performances, a photo station and an Uncle Sam lookalike contest. There will be food and refreshments available.
The celebration will end with a sing-along of “America The Beautiful.”
Visitors to the event can get a 10% coupon for 24 Greensburg businesses and restaurants.
