• Starting Monday, Pirates fans interested in watching their favorite club will likely need to extend their bedtimes, as three straight late-night showdowns in Sacramento get underway. The Athletics are sharing Sutter Health Park with the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, for the foreseeable future as their permanent next home in Las Vegas is constructed. Jacob Wilson, the A’s 24-year-old shortstop and son of former Pirate Jack Wilson, is slashing .292/.311/.398 with three homers and 19 RBIs a year removed from being an All-Star in 2025. On June 10, former Pirate infielder Alika Williams, now with the Athletics, hit his first career home run in MLB game No. 99. Williams was traded to the A’s in mid-May.
At Rockies
8:40 p.m. Friday (SN PIT)
9:10 p.m. Saturday (SN PIT)
3:10 p.m. Sunday (SN PIT)
• On top of being one of the worst seasons in MLB history, Colorado’s 43-119 record last season (.265 win percentage) was easily the worst in its own franchise history dating back to 1993. So far this year, things haven’t been much more pleasant, as the Rockies have quickly fallen back into the cellar of the NL West (if they ever left following last season). The man owners Dick and Charles Monfort are entrusting to turn things around is Vandergrift native and Greensburg Central Catholic alumnus Warren Schaeffer, who is in his second season as Colorado’s skipper. Making Schaeffer’s job difficult has been an MLB-worst Rockies team ERA of 5.56. Offensively, catcher Hunter Goodman (18 homers, 33 RBIs, team-best 58 hits) and Mickey Moniak (.280 batting average, 12 homers, 28 RBIs) have been bright spots.
