People who like to use the Highlands School District track and football field will need to find a new place to get their steps in, at least temporarily.
The facility at Golden Rams Stadium in Harrison will be closed for about five weeks while new turf is installed.
Work to replace the 12-year-old turf is expected to begin Monday.
The school board this spring approved the $534,000 project as part of $1.67 million in capital projects that will span the 2026-27 school year.
Work did not impact taxes. The board is scheduled to vote on the district’s budget Monday, which holds the property taxes steady at 25.13 mills.
Stan Whiteman, district director of buildings and grounds, gave an overview of the capital projects plan in May. He said the scope includes the entire district, including concrete work at the middle and elementary schools and a new roof at the maintenance garage.
Georgia-based FieldTurf USA was awarded the contract.
It is the same company that installed the infield surface on the high school’s baseball field last year and installed the current turf at the football stadium in 2014.
The project includes returfing the 91,000-square-foot field and replacing the center logo with a Rams head logo.
