A Tarentum woman was sentenced to 10 to 23 months in jail this week in connection with a shooting in Monessen that left one person hurt.

Kaytin I. Ward, 22, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, firearms not to be carried without a license and terroristic threats. More serious charges, including attempted homicide, were dismissed under a plea agreement, according to court records.

An exchange of gunfire at a home on Leeds Avenue on March 27, 2025 led to charges against Ward; Brendon Redden, 27, of Pittsburgh; and Jay Din R. Eleam, 22, of Isabella. A five-hour police standoff ended the next day with Eleam’s arrest. Redden and Ward were charged this year.

Police said Redden and Eleam exchanged gunfire. Redden was injured.

Monessen police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between Eleam and Ward over their child, according to court papers. Ward was driven to Leeds Avenue, by Redden, her boyfriend at the time.

Ward, who remains at the Westmoreland County Prison, was ordered to serve two years on probation after the jail term, according to court records.

Redden and Eleam are both charged with attempted homicide and related offenses. Eleam is awaiting a status conference June 29 while Redden’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.
