A woman died Monday after falling about 30 feet from scaffolding inside a pool area at Obama Academy in East Liberty, Pittsburgh public safety officials said.
Just before 9 a.m., Pittsburgh police, fire and emergency service crews responded to the 500 block of North Highland Avenue for reports of a woman injured in a fall from construction scaffolding at the school, the police blotter said.
Construction workers were completing a lighting project in the pool area. Scaffolding had been erected inside an empty swimming pool, officials said.
Upon arriving, responders found an adult woman at the bottom of the pool. She suffered traumatic head injuries consistent with a fall from that height, according to police.
The woman was transported by ambulance to a hospital in “grave condition,” the blotter said.
She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Late Monday night, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Noelle Mansour, 36. Her home community is outside of Allegheny County and was not named.
“The district extends its sincere condolences to the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Ebony Pugh, spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Public Schools in a statement.
Pugh said Pittsburgh Public Schools is cooperating with the investigation.
Detectives from Pittsburgh police’s Violent Crime Unit responded to the scene as part of routine investigative procedures, police said.
Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Bourne said the incident will be ruled an accident, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration would be investigating.
