The Pittsburgh Steelers added a rookie receiver with Western Pennsylvania roots.
Pine-Richland graduate Levi Wentz, who played college football at Kansas, Albany and Old Dominion, signed Monday, the team announced. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder played one season of high school football, having joined the WPIAL team as a senior.
Wentz initially signed in April with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent and was waived last week.
At Kansas, Wentz made 16 catches for 258 yards and two touchdowns last season. He played in 12 games with six starts. A year earlier, Wentz had 40 receptions, 621 yards and one touchdown in 12 games for Albany. In all, he played 36 games over five college seasons.
As a defensive back, Wentz helped Pine-Richland reach the WPIAL finals in 2019. He had 45 tackles, nine pass breakups and two interceptions and was selected for the Big 33 Football Classic that season.
In a corresponding move, the Steelers released linebacker Daylan Carnell and punter Aidan Laros.
