The National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office in Moon confirmed two tornadoes touched down Sunday in Western Pennsylvania.
The weather service issued severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches and warnings throughout the day Sunday. The storms left thousands of residents without power. Those numbers dwindled throughout the day Monday.
As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, outages throughout Allegheny and Westmoreland counties stand in the single digits, according to Duquesne Light and West Penn Power online outage trackers.
Weather service staff conducted storm surveys Monday and determined tornadoes touched down near McCalmont in Jefferson County and near Beaver Falls in Beaver County.
The Jefferson County tornado was rated an EF1, with wind speeds reaching 110 mph, said Meteorologist Chris Leonardi. A rating has not yet been determined for the Beaver County storm.

A tornado also was confirmed to have passed through Salem in Ohio’s Columbiana County, according to the weather service. A rating has not yet been determined, Leonardi said.
Survey update: Our team continued east in Columbiana County to the border of Beaver County and found evidence of a second tornado from the same part of the line. We'll have more details, including an EF rating, available later. That will bring our tornado count to three so far.
