Woman shot in Pittsburgh

A woman was taken to a hospital after being shot in the shoulder in Pittsburgh’s Elliott neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Steuben Street around 3 a.m. after receiving a one-round ShotSpotter notification, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety. While en route, they were informed that a woman inside a nearby residence had a gunshot wound in her shoulder blade.

She was taken to a hospital in critical condition. A man and another woman from the same residence were taken to police headquarters for questioning.

Detectives are investigating.


Route 28 reopens after crash

A portion of Route 28 near East Deer has reopened after briefly closing Thursday morning following a car crash.

The northbound lane of the roadway was closed between exits 13 and 14 — the Russelton-Creighton and Tarentum-New Kensington exits. Emergency responders arrived on scene and closed the northbound lane around 5:20 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

It reopened to traffic around 6:20 a.m.


Person, firefighter hospitalized after Overbrook house fire

Two people were taken to a hospital following a house fire in Pittsburgh’s Overbrook neighborhood Wednesday evening, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The home was fully engulfed in flames, which posed a threat to an adjacent building, when fire crews arrived at the 100 block of Odette Street around 8:50 p.m.

One resident was taken to a hospital in stable condition with burns to the face, shoulder and left arm. One firefighter also was taken to a hospital in stable condition for dehydration and heat exhaustion.

The home was deemed a total loss, Public Safety said, and the Red Cross has been notified to assist residents. Investigators determined the fire was accidental and started in the kitchen.
