Multiple arrests were made Friday night and Saturday morning after a large fight that included as many as 50 juveniles erupted in Pittsburgh’s Market Square.
Officials said police on patrol responded to what authorities said was a fight in front of the Chipotle restaurant around 9:15 p.m. Pepper spray was deployed in an effort to break up the fight and clear the crowd. Four officers were treated for exposure to the spray.
Escalating violence including assaults on police officers led police to clear Market Square.
Officials said the crowd dissipated from Market Square around 12:15 a.m., but other juveniles congregated at Triangle Square andat the Forbes and Wood Street bus stop, where Port Authority Police continued to break up fights.
Police said three guns were confiscated during the altercations.
Five adults were arrested on charges that included aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and firearms and drug offenses. Four juveniles, two males and two females, were cited disorderly conduct.
No chaperone policy was in effect at the time of the incidents, police said.
