There’s a new way to go big while enjoying custard at Jerry’s Custard.

Frozen Custard Pies ($18) are flying out of the freezers at Jerry’s — with locations in Indiana Township and Lower Burrell — and the custard creations have been a sweet success with customers.

“Customers were asking because they love our turtle custard sundaes — and this is something bigger — and it’s perfect for taking one to-go for a cookout, dinner or any occasion,” said Jerry’s owner Tammy Connolly of O’Hara.

Connolly is a self-proclaimed custard queen. Her father, Jerry Connolly, 82, of Lower Burrell first opened a custard stand in 1978. The business relaunched in 2001 after being closed since 1982.

The Frozen Custard Pies are made with gobs of fresh custard in a variety of flavor combinations and are the latest sweet treats on the menu.

Connolly said customers are clamoring for the delicious twist on a traditional pie.

Custard boasts a higher milk fat content and is made with eggs, offering a richer flavor and texture.

Frozen custard pie flavors include turtle, caramel Snickers, banana split, apple pie, Butterfinger fudge and chocolate Reese’s.

The frozen pies are handmade and piled high with toppings and rich buttercream whipped cream. They can be served almost immediately from freezer to table.

Pre-orders are recommended for the custard pies. The lead time is two to three days for pick up.

Jerry’s Custard uses fresh dairy ingredients from Marburger Dairy Farm in Evans City.

“I love to use quality local ingredients whenever I can,” Tammy Connolly said.
