An All-American showing at the NCAA track and field championships garnered Michigan junior Liz Tapper a top honor.
Tapper, a Hempfield graduate, was named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s Field Athlete of the Year.
Tapper finished seventh at NCAAs in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 57 feet, 6.5 inches. That followed a 13th-place finish at the Big Ten championships (51-10.5) and a 12th-place finish at the NCAA East first round.

Marietta: A Seton Hill alum is taking the reins as the 15th coach in 152 years of baseball at Marietta.
Tyler Sullivan, a former Seton Hill assistant, coached the last three years at the Division I level, one at Eastern Michigan and two at Longwood.
He spent five seasons in Marc Marizzaldi’s staff at Seton Hill, where he also served as the school’s academic coordinator and a strength and conditioning coach for the Griffins’ baseball and women’s lacrosse teams.
Another coaching stop includes the Johnstown Mill Rats of the Prospect League. Sullivan worked as an assistant manager of baseball operations at ERA Sports Inc. in Latrobe.
He began his playing career at Evansville before helping Seton Hill win two PSAC titles while earning conference tournament MVP in 2018.
Seton Hill: Sophomore Sean Williams was one of the Griffins’ top pitchers last season. Remember, he threw a no-hitter.
But he also showed he can field the baseball.
He was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Division II Atlantic Region All-Defensive team. The sophomore finished 10-2 with a 3.29 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 24 walks in 65 2/3 innings. He did not make an error in 15 defensive chances and turned one double play.
