As tornado warnings expired for Western Pennsylvania, flash flood warnings were issued for southwestern Westmoreland, northwestern Fayette, southern Washington and northwestern Greene counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms could drop between 1.5 inches and 3.5 inches of rain in the affected areas. The flash flood warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Low-lying locations — including creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, underpasses and areas with poor drainage — are most likely to experience flooding.

According to the weather service, affected areas include Monessen, California, Donora, Monongahela, Charleroi, West Newton, Bentleyville, Brownsville, East Bethlehem, North Belle Vernon, Carroll, North Charleroi, Speers, Belle Vernon, Ellsworth, West Brownsville and West Finley. Drivers who encounter flooded roads are advised to turn around.

Earlier in the evening, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was tracked near Connellsville around 5:20 p.m., moving east at 25 mph.

Areas in the path of that storm included Connellsville, South Connellsville, Seven Springs, Dunbar, Vanderbilt, Dawson, Champion, Mill Run, Indian Head, Normalville and Jones Mills. The tornado warning expired at 5:45 p.m.
