Oakmont officials have released tentative start dates for railroad crossing upgrades in the borough.

PennDOT began the update project in 2019. Oakmont is the latest location for work along a rail line from Pittsburgh to New Kensington.

The work, PennDOT previously told TribLive, will begin at the College Avenue crossing. Borough officials said the portion of road is scheduled to close July 1 and reopen sometime on July 2.

The crossings at Washington Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue will be upgraded separately between July 9 and July 16.

“As these dates draw closer, we will follow up with more information,” said a social media post from the borough.

The work will end with the railroad crossing on Hulton Road. The section of road is scheduled to close Friday, Aug. 7 and reopen sometime Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The traffic signals at Allegheny River Boulevard and Allegheny Avenue will continuously flash yellow with flaggers to keep local traffic moving through the intersections, according to the borough.

“Detour signs will also be posted for these closures,” the post said. “Expect increased and continual traffic and congestion during these projects.”

These dates are subject to change depending on weather and scheduling.

“If there are any scheduling changes to this project, we will alert the public once we confirm the information,” the post said.
