The Latrobe American Legion baseball team needed a clutch hit, and Mason Fridley delivered.
Fridley hit a one-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally Latrobe to a 3-2 victory against Lower Burrell in Game 1 of the District 31 semifinals.
The teams will meet in Game 2 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Lower Burrell’s ABC Fields.
Lower Burrell grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI hit by Brayden Mell.
Latrobe tied the score in the fourth inning on a single by Aaryn Chappel.
Lower Burrell reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning on a single by Tylar Hanley.
In the bottom of the seventh inning with one out, Ty Wisniewski reached on his second hit of the game.
He moved to third on a double by Grady Ruffner. Both scored on Fridley’s single.
Winning pitcher Cole Short and Wisniewski hit doubles. Short allowed five hits and struck out eight.
Hanley had two hits for Lower Burrell.
Homer City 3, Bushy Run 0 — At Harrison City, Homer City scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings off starting pitcher Jayden Kennedy.
In the first inning, Brayden Rado was hit with a pitch and scored on a double by Connor James.
In the fourth inning, Dom Shimko reached on a two-out walk and scored on a double by Hunter Kunkle.
In the fifth inning, Shane McHugh singled home Austin Calvetti, who walked.
Bushy Run loaded the bases in the sixth inning and got the first two batters on in the seventh inning but did not score.
Jordan White and Evan Gigliotti had two hits each for Bushy Run.
Game 2 is 6 p.m. Sunday at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City.
