Catherine Lee Smith, age 66, of North Huntingdon, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, in the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. Cathy was born on Feb. 1, 1958, in McKeesport, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Dorothy (Ryan) Schaffer. Cathy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin; her passion was antiquing, and she inherited a love of gardening from her grandmother, Mildred Ryan. She loved walking through the neighborhood no matter what the weather was. She loved her neighbors and loved talking to everyone as she did her daily walks. She is survived by her sister, Kelly Schaffer; her nephew, Dakota Kasunic; nieces, Madison Thomas and Harley Leighty; her boyfriend, Chris Siegel; her cousins, Sandy Conners, Marci Matthews, Trudi DiFabio and David Ryan; and many lifelong close friends who have stood beside her through her long battle with cancer for the last 16 years. There was no visitation. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, in Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. Burial followed in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Irwin.
