Mary Lois Kennedy Mills, 96, of Greensburg, died peacefully on Sept. 26, surrounded by family, just twelve days after her birthday. Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Born in Marietta, OH, of the late Joseph Edgar and Florence (Archer) Kennedy, she was the first of three daughters and grew up in WV. Mary graduated from St. Mary's High School and earned a BA in teaching from Marietta College. She married Royle Mauger Mills in June 1950, and together they raised three children, starting their lives in WV, but moving to Greensburg in Dec. 1969 with Allegheny Power. Through work and church life, the couple found many close friends with whom to socialize, play cards, and travel. Mary was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing and knitting. She volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels, participated actively in Presbyterian Women, and served as both an ordained deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg. A few years after Royle died in 2011, Mary moved to an apartment into Redstone and greatly enjoyed her eight-plus years of active independent living, where she made many friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Judith Kennedy and Michael Webb; sister-and brother-in-law, Richard and Edith Stadden; and son-in-law, Craig Sell. Surviving are her sister, Nora (Don) Highbarger of Cocoa Beach, FL; and stepbrother-in-law, George Carpenter of Milton, PA; three children, Julie Kay (Michael) Misko of Mentor, OH, Margaret 'Peggy' Ann (Verne) Qualls of Newark, OH, and James David (Shari) Mills of Greensburg, PA; six grandchildren, Jennifer Misko, Michael (Gretchen) Misko, Kristin (John) Ream, Nathan (Caroline) Sell, James (Heather) Mills, and Jonathan Mills; and five great-grandchildren, Charlie and Ben Ream, Hadley Mills, and Alexandra and Abigail Sell; along with several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held for the family at First Presbyterian of Greensburg, with arrangements by KEPPLE GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, and burial at St. Clair Cemetery.
