Velma Marie Herman, 91, formerly of Greensburg, answered the Lord's calling on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, in West Blocton, AL. She was born May 5, 1933, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Hofer) Purse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Dale V. Herman, Sr.; two sons, Dale V. Herman Jr. and Roger A. Herman; a brother, Donald Purse; and a sister, Jeanette Purse Castine. She was a graduate of Jeannette High School class of 1951, where she met and then married her high school sweetheart, Dale. She is survived by her youngest son, Brian S. Herman (Kathy Lou); grandchildren, Christian Phillips and Alia Herman; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Elizabeth Phillips and Runa Bush. Velma was a loving member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, New Stanton. Visitation will he held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m., on Thursday, with Pastor Steve Meyers. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
