The 2024 Dick’s Sporting Good Pittsburgh Marathon will be held Sunday morning in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The handcycle division starts Sunday’s events at 6:50 a.m., and the marathon, half-marathon and marathon relay all begin at 7 a.m. The 4-mile fitness challenge will commence at 9:30 a.m.

• More than 42,000 people from 50 states and 24 countries will participate in this year’s Pittsburgh Marathon. They range in age from 5 months to 87 years old.
• More than 8,500 children are expected to take part in the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon.
• According to marathon officials, 43.8% of participants are competing in their first marathon, and 33.3% are running their first half-marathon.
• More than 40 companies will participate in the FedEx Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge, which is an opportunity for corporations or companies to promote workplace wellness and build teamwork.
• The marathon course travels through 14 neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh.
• An estimated $1.5 million is expected to be raised for charity during this year’s marathon. Marathon officials estimate that $16.5 million has been raised for charity since 2009.
• In 2023, the Pittsburgh Marathon was the 17th largest running event in the U.S., according to RunSignUp.
• In 2009 when the Pittsburgh Marathon returned after a five-year hiatus, there were 10,500 runners in the field. It was also the first time a half-marathon and kids race were offered.
• In 2014, the Pittsburgh Marathon was recognized as the eighth best marathon in the world by ACTIVE Times, and Kids of Steel was named the youth program of the year by Running USA.
• In 2022, after two years of virtual races brought on by the pandemic, the Pittsburgh Marathon had 40,000 participants.
• More than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the marathon course.

According to marathon officials:
• 20,000 gallons of water will be consumed.
• 30,000 mylar blankets will be made available.
• 700 Port-O-Johns will be stationed along the course.
• 33,600 bananas will be offered to participants.
• 480,000 cups will be needed.
• There will be 17 aid stations, 19 fluid stations and 4 relay exchanges set up.
• 4,000 volunteers will be in attendance, including 500 clinicians (physicians, nurses, paramedics, podiatrists, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists).

• The overall top finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions will receive the following prize money:
First place: $7,000

• Prize money for the half-marathon in the men’s and women’s division is:
