RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Red Bluff High School varsity football team will be forfeiting its upcoming game with Pleasant Valley this Friday night, the Red Bluff Joint Union High School District announced. The district said the decision to forfeit this game is based on the determination that several RBHS Varsity Football players violated the athletic code of conduct. The district said this decision is consistent with the district's athletic code of conduct consequences and also takes into consideration the safety of the players who remain eligible to play. According to Pleasant Valley varsity football head coach Mark Cooley, Red Bluff made its decision due to a number of players partying last weekend. The Red Bluff Joint Union High School District says due to student confidentiality, it won't be disclosing any information regarding the forfeiture. "I was a little disappointed to see people's faces, because they were all sad about it" Red Bluff High School student Cheyenne McNeal told us on Wednesday. This week is homecoming for Pleasant Valley, which means students will be celebrating without a varsity football game taking place. Vikings coach Mark Cooley added that the game cancellation will impact Pleasant Valley financially, as they can't sell tickets to the game this Friday, or sell concessions to those who attend. Cooley says the school uses money from football games to pay for the team's transportation throughout the season. "Everyone was really psyched about it, everyone was excited to go" Red Bluff High School student Ethan Lindauer said. "It's like a really big thing for us students to go to." He continued, "I'm really upset that it got canceled. But, hopefully next year it can happen." Red Bluff varsity football head coach Jacob Daricek told Action News Now his team will meet this week to discuss player conduct. Daricek didn't specify if the team would practice as usual, saying he wanted to discuss this incident with his team first. Grayson Drake, a junior who plays on the Pleasant Valley Vikings varsity team, told us in a statement "We (P-V) were really looking forward to this game to show our league that our record doesn't represent how good of a team we really are." He added, "We were also looking forward to this game due to us coming off a previous bye week." Coach Cooley confirmed the freshman and junior varsity homecoming games will still take place this Friday. The freshman game begins at 5 P.M. with junior varsity's kickoff at 7 P.M. Due to Red Bluff forfeiting the game, Pleasant Valley will improve to 3-3 on the year after this week. Red Bluff will technically suffer their first loss of the season due to the forfeiture, dropping to 5-1 on the season.
