Four new assistant principals were approved by North Allegheny School Board for Carson and Marshall middle schools, and both of the high schools.
Garrett Miller was approved at the Jan. 24 school board meeting as an assistant principal of North Allegheny Senior High School, with a prorated salary of $99,000.
Miller said he is “honored to have this opportunity to work at one of the top school districts, not only in Pennsylvania but also in the nation.”
At the Feb. 21 meeting, the school board approved Melanie Manes as assistant principal at the intermediate high school, with a prorated annual salary of $99,000, and Robert Long as assistant principal at Carson Middle School. His prorated salary is $102,500.
Manes will replace Jenna Fraser, an assistant principal at the intermediate school who will take on the same role at Marshall Middle School.
Miller comes from Slippery Rock Area High School, where he has served as an assistant principal since August 2021, according to an announcement from the district.
He served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, reaching the level of captain and serving as heavy weapons platoon leader, mortar platoon leader, company executive officer and battalion logistics officer.
Miller earned his bachelor of secondary education in social studies/history, secondary education and teaching from Slippery Rock University, and his master of education and pre-K-12 principal certification from PennWest California.
Manes is coming from Plum Senior High School, where she is assistant principal. She earned her bachelor of science in chemistry from Wheeling Jesuit University and a master’s in instructional leadership from Robert Morris University. In May 2019, she earned her K-12 principal certification from Point Park University.
She has 20 years experience as a classroom teacher and administrator, according to a Feb. 21 announcement from the district.
Manes is pursuing her doctorate in education with a concentration in educational leadership from the University of Pittsburgh, with an anticipated graduation in December.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity to join the North Allegheny community,” she said. “It’s a great day to be a Tiger.”
Long comes from Northgate School District, where he was middle school principal and director of federal programs since October 2021.
He earned his bachelor of arts in history and secondary social studies certification from Dickinson College and his master of education and pre-K-12 principal certification from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Long is enrolled in the doctoral program in educational leadership through Point Park University, with anticipated completion in May 2025.
“I’d like to thank the board for the opportunity to serve. I love middle school,” he said, adding he wants “to take Carson to the next level.”
Fraser has served as an assistant principal at NAI for six years.
School board member Leslie Britton Dozier said the board was able to meet and interview the candidates.
