Nicholas Graham of New Kensington earned Boy Scouting’s highest rank when he successfully completed the Eagle Scout Board of Review on December 12, 2021. The son of Michael and Tracie Graham, Nick led a team of youth and adult volunteers in assembling 60 care packages for homeless veterans. Graham researched the statistics of the homeless in the Pittsburgh region and discovered that among the several hundred homeless were a large number of veterans living on the streets or in shelters. His project, “Care Packages for Homeless Veterans” consisted of basic necessities for the health and hygiene of homeless veterans. Included in each reusable drawstring bag was a toothbrush, toothpaste, facial tissues, body wipes, hat, gloves, socks, hand warmers, deodorant, reusable water bottle, can opener and a McDonalds gift card. Graham worked closely with VFW Post 6675 to distribute the kits. A Valley High School graduate and now a freshman at Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a focus on engineering, Graham credits his friends, family and time in Scouting as a member of Troop 134 in the Japeechen District for the drive to succeed in his life thus far. His drive to help those finding difficulty helping themselves speaks volumes to the attitude of service gained during his career in Scouting.
