Charles (Chuck, Charlie) I. Markle, 91, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2024. Formerly from Freeport, he was born July 23, 1933, to the late James and Margaret (Innes) Markle. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Charlie worked as a maintenance supervisor for Burrell School District until his retirement in 1986. He also worked for several decades, and was a fixture at, Sokols Hardware in Lower Burrell, and later, John's Heating in Freeport. Charlie was a longtime member of Grace Community Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder, as well as a Men's Club member, and Property Committee member. Charlie also served 25-plus years on the Zoning Hearing Board for the City of Lower Burrell, until his retirement in 2022. He was also very proud to be a member of the Past Masters of Bethel Lodge F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, and Syria Shriners. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. For 20-plus years, he and a group of guys would travel to Gosenda Lake in Canada to fish. It was the highlight of the year for him. He also liked to go camping. Traveling in their 20-foot travel trailer, the family would log many miles, and see many sights, with Charlie in the driver's seat. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, James; and sister, Dolores Jean Fullerton. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Connie (Gensbigler) Markle, who was affectionately known as Connie Mae by him; daughter, Kellie (Jim) Newcomb; son, Kent (Janelle) Markle; and four granddaughters, Aubrie, Paige, Delaney and Tabitha. Friends will gladly be received from 2 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell (724-335-6500). Masonic service will begin at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Grace Community Presbyterian Church, 2751 Grant Street, Lower Burrell, with Pastor Owar Ojulu presiding.
