The Women’s Board of Pittsburgh hosted one of its most successful fundraisers in the group’s 30-year history, netting more than $98,000 for children’s charities.
Hosted in the spring at Fox Chapel Golf Club, the annual event was dubbed “Sunset Safari, Fashion Their Future: Support Pittsburgh’s Children.”
This year’s beneficiaries are Fox Families Care and Grow Pittsburgh.
Grow Pittsburgh, a group that supports food-growing initiatives as a way to improve the social, economic and health conditions of youths, teaches children to grow food by building gardens in schools and communities.
Established in 2005, Grow Pittsburgh has started more than 40 school garden programs.
Proceeds from the Women’s Board fundraiser will provide grants to update garden beds to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards and allow all children to participate in the gardening process.
Fox Families Care began in 2019 to bridge the gap between the needs of families and sometimes-limited budgets.
The group provides services such as emergency grants for clothes, shoes, school supplies and camp scholarships.
Proceeds from the event are specifically used to provide underserved children with the chance to attend Camp Guyasuta’s summer STEAM activities in O’Hara.
“In addition to raising much-needed funds for area children, a fabulous time was had by all who attended,” board member Lisa Bowden said.
“This year’s benefit featured cocktails, a seated dinner, live and silent auctions, and a fashion show featuring the latest styles from Carabella.”
Last year’s benefit, Springtime in Paris, brought in more than $83,000 to benefit four area groups: Earthen Vessels Outreach, Foster Love Project, Joy Riders and the Will Allen Foundation.
