Connellsville Garden Club members are putting the final touches on the plans for Saturday’s 11th annual Geranium Festival in downtown Connellsville. Geranium sales begin at 9 a.m., and vendor booths will open between 9 and 10 a.m. The festival will be opened to the sounds of DJ Ben Millward. Phyllis Kovall, garden club member in charge of flower sales, said 3,500 geraniums have been ordered from Cellurale’s Nursery for the sale. She said there will be an assortment of colors — variations of reds, white, salmons, pinks and violets with names such as Rose Pink, Salmon Chic, Lavender Watermelon, Orange and White Splash. Geraniums are $2 each. The flowers will be available for sale until all are gone. “We would encourage people who are planning to buy large amounts to bring boxes or flat containers with them to help with the transporting of them, although we do try to provide at least some of those things ourselves,â€? said Kovall. Connellsville Junior High Honor Society members, under the direction of Julie Kezmarsky, will help sell and carry flowers to cars. There will be a holding area for the convenience of people who purchase flowers and want go on to enjoy the festival, said Kovall. “Children will be able to plant flowers at the Connellsville Area Garden Club booth to take home and replant,â€? said Susie Coleman, a garden club member and one of the event organizers. “We will have tents at Lions Square for entertainment, but people may want to bring their own chairs,â€? said Bev Oppermann, festival chairwoman. The Princess Contest will be held at 10 a.m., followed by the pet parade at 11. Cathi Rhodes, Patsy Cline Tribute Artist, will perform at 12:30 p.m. followed by vocalist Kamry Uhazie at 2:30. Throughout the afternoon visitors will enjoy artists who will go throughout the crowd. These include balloon artist Abby Wirth, face painter Michael Specht and juggler Nicholas Jacobyansky. Jacobyansky, 17, a junior at Connellsville Area High School, is the son of Dr. Frank and Nancy Jacobyansky of Connellsville. He has earned varsity letters in cross-country, track and diving. He is a member of the gifted program, the Quiz League team, Architecture Competition team, Mock Trial team and student council. He has participated in Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science for five years and is a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where he is an altar server. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 101 and is an Eagle Scout. He belongs to the International Jugglers Association and attended the 2014 convention at Purdue University. Uhazie, 19, is the daughter of Kristen Uhazie of Juniata. She attends California University of Pennsylvania, where she is majoring in nursing with a minor in music. She has been chosen to be a part of Cal U’s competitive a capella group, Acapella Stella. She started singing professionally at 8 years old, opening for groups including the Poverty Neck Hillbillies, Nomad, Girls in Black Hats and Joe Diffie. Uhazie has won many singing and dancing contests, which has taken her to places such as the Bahamas, Walt Disney World, New York, New Jersey and Chicago. Her recent accomplishments include winning the 2013-14 Regatta Queen, Fayette Idol, appearing on Fox’s American Idol and playing the part of a wounded Marine’s wife in the trailer for the movie “When Heaven and Hell Collide,â€? which begins production soon. Both new and returning vendors at the festival include the Connellsville Presbyterian Church, Poppy’s Kountry Kettle Korn, Central Fellowship Church, CAHS Patriots, Krafty Kreations, Trinity Lutheran Church, Connellsville Lions Club, Domino’s Pizza, Pampered Chef, Donna Evans Realty, The Charm Bar, Daily Courier/Trib Total Media, Avon, Thirty-One, Toys and Treasures, Joy Faith Soaps, Pizza Louie’s, Silpada, Armstrong, Connellsville City Police, Payne AME, Wells Chiropractic, Rae’s Candles, Albright United Methodist Church, West Side Jewelry, Le-Vel-Thrive, Falcon Marching Band, Mike’s Hawaiian Ice, Doterra Essential Oils, Bottle Cap Jack, and other miscellaneous vendors. Central Fellowship Church will be selling Rada products. The Presbyterian Church will have ham barbecues and extras; CAHS Patriots will have wooden and patriotic items along with ethnic foods; Payne AME will feature ethnic foods; and Pizza Louie’s will sell fried dough. Connellsville Area Pre-School will feature children’s grass heads; Tim Dye will return this year with “Out Of The Woodsâ€? clothing; and the Lions will sell brooms. Connellsville Area Community Ministries and Otterbein United Methodist Church will be partnering with booths in front of the CACM building. Volunteers will be offering free blood pressure screenings, free bottled water and there will be a prayer tent. CACM will offer free popcorn throughout the day. “The Otterbein United Methodist Church members invite everyone to stop by our ‘Aim for a Healthy Mind, Body and Spirit’ display at the Geranium Festival,â€? said Linda Suter, church member. “There you can have a free blood pressure reading and pick up lots of information on leading a healthy lifestyle. Plus, you can sit with us and volunteers from CACM at our prayer tent and join with us in prayer during the day. We look forward to serving the community at the festival and hope you stop by to share the day with our church members.â€? The Connellsville Canteen and Train Display will be open during the festival as will other businesses in the festival area. West Crawford Avenue will be closed between Arch and Pittsburgh streets during the event hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and admission to the festival are free.
