Mon River Arts' Petite Players and Stagemasters will present “Beauty and the Beast Jr.� as a combined production at the Grand Theatre in Elizabeth. Directed by Jen Gorton Van Mastrigt, members of the youth theater will bring the Disney story to life Friday through Sunday, with a special performance Thursday for family and friends with admission a donation. Admission for other performances is $8. Although shorter than the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the production includes music by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Menken and Tim Rice. The show tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he'll revert to his human form.
